Marjorie Jean
Marjorie has enjoyed and continues to enjoy a successful career as an actor and writer. She has had the privilege of performing at LA MaMa ETC, joining the ranks of other fellow actor/director/playwrights like: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel, Diane Lane, Nick Nolte, Danny DeVito, Sam Shepard and Lanford Wilson. There she became a member of the Great Jones Repertory Company performing in New York City and at LA MaMa Umbria International in Spoleto, Italy. She also has had the opportunity to work with Prometheus' Fire director/playwright, Ray Aranha, who wrote the play "My Sister, My Sister;" which appeared on Broadway in 1974 and received the Drama Desk Award for outstanding new playwright. On film, she can seen in the role of Weasel in 2002's "Go For Broke," directed by Jean-Claude LaMarre; and as Josefina in the 2008 comedy "Pitchers," directed by Aaron Denenberg. In 2008, she and Pras Michel (originally of the Fugees and whom she starred alongside in "Go For Broke") have optioned the Film and TV rights to the comic book series "Dark Oz". Consequently, she is extremely excited to add the role of producer to her resume.
As a poet, Marjorie has had the opportunity to have the following poems published: "The Cycle"
in Between the Raindrops (1995), "Mr. Can, Sir"
in A Muse to Follow (1996) and "Love" in Echoes from the Silence (1996). "The Cycle" and "Mr. Can, Sir"
both receiving Editor's Choice Awards from the Library of Congress. Marjorie has a BA in Political Science from
The Pennsylvania State University with minors in African/ African-American Studies and Dance. Her voice has been trained
with the late Therman Bailey, Allison Starr and Nathan Lam. As an actor, she has trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute (NY)
and continues to hone her craft under the tutelage of Barbara Montgomery. Marjorie has always seen art as a means of healing,
communication and self-expression; and is honored to be working with the Street Poets Community.
